RESIDENTS who dealt with a fresh blow of a bid to build up to 100 homes will be told the site is not recommended for development.

Planning permission was granted for 300 homes to be built in Oak Road, and last year residents were disappointed to hear Conies Field opposite them had also been put up for housing.

However planning officers have said the site for up to 100 homes, put forward by planning consultancy Plain View, had poor access and was not suitable.

The former orchard was not included in the site allocations plan previously because its allocation would represent an intrusion into the countryside.

Planning officer said: "The site would be accessed from Oak Road at a point where this is single lane.

"The Highway Authority have raised concerns in relation to the site stating that Oak Road requires widening.

"This is a sizeable site and it is unlikely that access arrangements to this site are likely to be acceptable."

Consultants at Plain View said the land assessment had come back positive, and that it was too early to say how many houses would be built, but it could about 50.

Plain View will have the opportunity to share their views on the decision when it goes to public consultation.
