A KEEN group of pupils is working hard to make all the props needed for the school's next performance.

Last term, the stage scenery and props crew at Ramsey Academy, Halstead, made 14 stage blocks, 20 candlesticks, three rolling graves and two stakes ahead of the performance of Dracula in October.

Leader of the group, Steve Pittuck, said: "Our main lunch-time project this term is to complete a usable trapdoor.

"Not so easy, when there is no hole in the stage to drop through! So we are making a four foot square cube, with a sloping front to hold the doors and an open back to creep out of.

"There is still much to do, including making a bridge, a mad scientist’s lab, an altar, a painted backdrop, plenty of signs and other small bits and pieces.

"Students with a creative and practical attitude are welcome to join our crew."
