A PRIMARY school in Toppesfield no longer requires improvement thanks to outstanding leadership and the pupils’ good behaviour.

The St Margaret's Church of England Primary School needed to improve after its inspection in 2014, as the quality of teaching and behaviour of children was below standard.

Although in a report by Ofsted this month, the school in Toppesfield achieved a ‘good’ rating.

It said head teacher Kim Hall was providing “outstanding leadership” for the 72 pupils.

It said: “There is good support from staff and governors in driving improvements forward by robustly tackling weaknesses in teaching and learning.

“This has led to consistently good teaching across the school and some which is outstanding.”

The watchdog also found pupils had good relationships with each other and were polite to visitors.

The report said: “Pupils’ behaviour in lessons and around school is exemplary.

“Their conduct during this inspection was outstanding and it is clear from all available evidence that this is the norm.”

Martyn Fall, chairman of governors at the school, said in a statement: “We are delighted, but not surprised, the inspector has concluded this is a good school.

“The report is a true reflection of life in the school and readily acknowledges the dedication of Mrs Hall and her team.

“We can all take some time to celebrate the excellent result, but we will not be complacent and will continue to ensure the children reach their full potential during their time at St Margaret’s.”
