The parents of a cyclist killed in an incident has raised money for the Air Ambulance who tried to save him.

Angela and Stephen Weatherley of Sible Hedingham visited the Essex Air Ambulance Airbase to present the charity with a donation of £1,544 in memory of their son, Jonathan.

Jonathan was a qualified architect who specialised in period and listed properties.

As an active member of Cycle Club Sudbury he last year broke most of their long standing time trial records and was their Rider of the Year.

Outside of cycling he had a wide ranging variety of hobbies and interests including photography, music, travel and literature and he particularly loved Italy for its art and architecture but especially its cuisine and way of life.

Jonathan sadly died aged 43 on August 23, following a cycling incident in Twinstead.

Angela commented: “We very much appreciate the efforts of the East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Air Ambulance Aircrew who tried to save Jonathan.

“We hope that this donation from family and friends will help save someone else's life in the future.”

Laurie Phillipson, clinical manager at Essex Air Ambulance said: “On behalf of everyone here at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust, I would like to offer the family and friends of Jonathan Weatherley our deepest condolences during this difficult time.

“I would like to thank Angela and Stephen for visiting us here today and for donating such a generous amount to the Trust in memory of their son.”
