A team of five have come second in a debating competition.
The quintet, all members of Halstead Young Farmers Club, took part in Essex Young Farmers’ competition on Sunday held at Boswells School, in Chelmsford.
Anna Cooper and Jess Frank debated whether performance enhancing drugs should be legalised in sport and Alex Howard and Ben Hopkins debated whether children have the right to own a mobile phone.
Chris Haylock chaired another club’s debate.
None of those taking part had competed in a debating competition before.
They came second in the competition, beaten by Dunmow Young Farmers Club.
They have qualified to take part in the Eastern Area’s Competition on March 6, where they will be competing against other clubs in Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
