A proposal to introduce 30 minute short stay car parking spaces in the high street has been abandoned.
Braintree Council suggested the idea as part of a parcel of changes it was considering for Halstead town centre.
The proposals also included altering the area near the Jubilee Fountain and introducing a new crossing at the top of the high street.
However, after a consultation period which finished on August 7, it was decided to abandon the idea of the shorter car parking spaces as there was “no demand” for it.
Instead, the consultation will now consider how more free parking spaces can be offered.
It will also see if parking can be increased to two hours or more, and if not the parking situation should remain as it with a blanket one hour restriction.
The news has been welcomed by residents and shop owners.
