A village shop has been officially opened.

Although opening to customers in January, the Gosfield Village Shop had a grand opening last Sunday, attended by MP James Cleverly.

Councillors and Joanne Beavis, founder of the Gosfield Foundation Community Interest Company, were also at the ceremony.

The Foundation received funding from Essex County Council, Braintree Council and the Essex Community Foundation along with local donations to enable the shop to open.

The total cost of the shop was £50,000.

The Gosfield Village Shop was the first project of the foundation and all profits from the shop will go back to the foundation and be spent on other local projects.

It is run by 45 volunteers and is open seven days a week from 7am - 5pm and 8am - 12 noon on a Sunday.

The Gosfield Foundation was formed after the closure of G and S stores, Church Street which traded for many decades in Gosfield.
