A baby which had to be resuscitated for seven minutes following a traumatic birth has defied the odds of surviving to his first birthday.

Nicky Grant, 34, of Holmes Road, Halstead, knew that her baby was going to be big, but was expecting a straight forward birth at Broomfield Hospital.

Nicky, who has a daughter but has previously lost a baby, said: “He decided to come at 35 weeks, which was fine.

“However, he got his shoulder stuck behind my pelvis.

“One minute everything was fine, and the next there were about 35 people in the room, buzzers going off and people shouting.

“I actually thought I was going to die.

“It was a really harrowing thing to go through.”

On August 30, Kai will have his first birthday.

**As a celebration, his family has organised a fun day to raise money for Addenbrooke's neonatal intensive care unit.

There will be stalls, bouncy castles, games and much more at Halstead Town Football Club on August 30 between noon and 5pm.
