Residents are confused as to why a speed sign has been put up in the middle of a bush.

A pole for a speed indicator device - which tells motorists how fast they are speeding - was put up along Sloe Hill, in Halstead.

However, the pole has been placed in the middle of a bush, meaning that it, and the sign, are completely blocked from view.

Dawn Harris, 58, who lives opposite the sign, said: “It was a couple of weeks ago the sign first appeared.

“Even the men who were putting it up said they couldn’t believe it was being put there.

“It hasn’t had the top put on it yet so I don’t know if they are planning to move it or not.

“On either side, there are ten or so houses which don’t have bushes outside the houses so it could quite easily be put anywhere along there instead.

“There is also a large conifer which completely blocks the view of it.”
