A choral society in Halstead hopes to hit the right note and attract more male singers to join.
The popular Halstead and District Choral Society has about 40 members but the majority are female, with just six or seven male tenors and a couple of basses.
Society librarian, Val Bruce, said more male voices would make a huge difference to the choir’s sound and urged more men to take part.
She said: "We don’t know why more men don’t come forward - I suppose people have a lot of different choices about how they spend their leisure time.
"We have a laugh and there is something uplifting about singing in a group - it’s good for your health and is quite physical as well."
The choir sing a wide variety of music, ranging from classical Handel to popular musical hits from Les Miserables and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Rehearsals are already underway for the society’s cabaret concert in June but there is still time to take part.
