A lingerie shop in Halstead is closing after being in the town for 10 years.

Eden, in High Street, is being closed by owner Katherine Shone for personal reasons.

She declined to comment any further.

Chairman of Halstead Chamber of Trade Anne-Maree Robertson said: “It’s a real shame as it has been here a long time.

“It will be a sad loss.

“We have had some shops open recently and the market has proved to be fruitful for the town.

“The high street is looking a bit more vibrant now.”

However, this is the second shop to announce that it will be closing soon.

John Drake, 69, announced he has put his jewellery shop John Winter Drake Jewellers up for sale last month.

He said that although business remains strong, there isn’t enough support for local businesses.

The building occupied by Frank Smith and Sons is also still on the market after owner Frank Smith announced he was retiring in 2013.

Mr Smith said: “I would still like to sell it as an ongoing concern.

“I will have to close the shop eventually - I can’t go on forever.

“I am still hoping someone will come forwards but there hasn’t been much interest.”

A radiator cover shop is still reportedly planning to move into the Halstead Carpet and Curtain Co shop at the top of the high street after securing the lease two years ago.

However, there has been no sign of them moving in.

Reloved Home is also planning to move into the former Winners of Halstead pet shop.

Business owner Scott Rogers said: “We have just heard that we are getting the keys by the end of the week.

“All being well we should be open within a month.

“It is very exciting.”

A flooring showroom is also opening in the former Broadview Blinds shop in Head Street.

Owner of NAB Flooring Neil Brett, who will run the business with nephew Nathan, said: “We have done the flooring for most of the businesses here.

“We noticed a gap in the market and decided to open the shop.”

The shop, which is the company’s first, will hopefully be opening within a month.
