A Halstead man has admitted charges of dangerous driving and witness intimidation.

Darren Holford, 25, committed the offences on November 16 and December 14 last year.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard that Holford had used his car to repeatedly ram the rear of a vehicle in Colne Road, Halstead.

It was being driven by a friend with whom he had been in a disagreement.

The victim reported it to police but prosecutors said Holford later tracked him down and said: “I will tie you up to a tree and burn your fingers off with a blowtorch.”

Holford also threatened to ram the victim’s parents off the road in his car.

He admitted charges of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified over the first incident.

Over the second incident, he admitted another charge of driving while disqualified and of threatening the victim, with the intent of obstructing or perverting a police investigation.

Judge Patricia Lynch QC adjourned the sentencing for psychiatric reports.

Holford is due to be sentenced on May 15.
