A food store has officially announced it will open up in a former pub in the summer.
The Co-operative Food confirmed it will create 20 full and part time jobs at a new convenience store at the Woodman Inn in Colchester Road, Halstead.
Punch Taverns closed the venue in September.
The first floor living accomodation will also be converted into two flats with a side extension to create a new access point and 13 dedicated parking spaces will be provided for shoppers.
Jackie Pell, vice chairman of Halstead Town Council, said: “We’ll just have to see if they run it well.
“In my opinion it’s better than seeing a property empty.”
Pub-goers launched two petitions to save the popular venue in July - one signed by 133 people and a second online petition signed by 187, including people from China, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico and Serbia.
