One of Halstead's last two banks is reducing its hours.

Barclays Bank in the High Street will be closing on Wednesdays from February.

It is currently open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The news comes just weeks after NatWest announced it would be closing its High Street branch in March.

Andy Fletcher, community leader for Barclays Essex, said: "At the Halstead branch, we have experienced a decline in customer usage on a Wednesday and we have therefore made the decision to change our opening hours from February 2 to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm.

"Our colleagues have been informed about the change and will work at alternative branches on the day the branch is closed.

"We are committed to delivering a service that is shaped around what our customers want, offering them choice and flexibility, which is why Halstead branch will remain open four days a week."
