Economy in Halstead is booming as unemployment has fallen by more than a third in just one year.

Latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that only 242 people living in the Halstead area claim Jobseeker's Allowance – the lowest it has been in seven years.

More than 5,000 people aged 16 to 64 living in the town are now employed.

Halstead mayor David Hume was pleased with the figures but hoped that it did not include zero-hour contract jobs.
