Halstead should stick at being a market town rather than a floral one, suggests the town’s chamber of trade.

Members of the Halstead chamber of trade and commerce discussed the town team’s proposal to rebrand Halstead as a floral town at last Wedneday’s **3rd** meeting and felt that the town should not be officially rebranded.

They agreed that Halstead needed to be recognised as a market town, as it is deemed in a royal charter, rather than spending money on legal fees to change its status.

Chairman Anne-Maree Robertson said: “We are all in favour of anything that is going to improve the town and make it healthier and a better place to live but to change the name is going to be difficult.

“I understand that the name market town was granted by royal charter hundreds of years ago when Halstead was granted market status."
