Proposals to rebrand Halstead as a floral town have been met with unanimous favour.

Members of Halstead’s town team, which is made up of local business and community leaders, hope it will become known as a floral town among residents because of its Anglia in Bloom and Britain in Bloom success over the years.

Just as neighbouring Braintree is legally recognised as a market town, they feel a similar recognition could bring people into Halstead and help the town centre thrive.

Halstead twice won gold in Britain in Bloom and topped the table in the Anglia in Bloom competition for three years running.

Team chairman Dave Gronland said: “The reaction I have had from people makes me realise I have done something right, everyone has got behind the idea."
