The Ramsey Academy in Halstead celebrated its best ever GCSE results.

An impressive 60 per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades including English and maths - a jump of 19 per cent on last year’s results.

The A* to C pass rate for English also rose by 14 per cent in English and 20 per cent for maths and the number of pupils who achieved the English Baccalaureate more than doubled from 10 ten per cent to 21 per cent.

Significant increases were also seen in subjects including statistics, modern foreign languages, graphics, textiles and English literature.

Five teenagers each achieved between seven and 11 A* and A grades, while 99% of all pupils achieved at least one qualification.

Headteacher Daniel Gee said: “We are absolutely delighted by these outstanding results.

“Our school has been transformed over the last two years and today’s results are the culmination of the efforts of our staff and students.

“For our students’ best GCSE results to improve our key headline figure by 19 per cent is incredible and must rank very favourably compared to schools locally and nationally.”

He said pupils of all abilities have done well, adding: “The school’s journey of the last two years has been remarkable and it is now in a position to go from strength to strength.

“I would like to congratulate both the students and staff for their achievements this year and we wish our students well for the future.”

Matthew Hamman said: “I got seven A*s and five As so  I am really happy. I will be going to Colchester Sixth Form next year and hope to study medicine at university.

“I worked really hard and it has definitely paid off.”
