The number of jobseekers claiming benefits is at its lowest for nearly 11 years.

Jobcentre Plus in Braintree had 1,034 people registered for Jobseeker’s Allowance up until the end of last month, and this has gone down to just above 1,000.

Dave Cope, customer services operations manager for the Braintree branch, said: “The last time the figure was this low for Braintree Jobcentre was November 2003, when there were 990 claimants.

“It then rose to 1,025 in December 2003, and hasn’t been below 1,000 since.”
