A shop in Weavers Court, Halstead might be turned into a fish and chip shop if planning is approved.
Alex Garcia-Mayol has applied to Braintree District Council to change the use of 17 Weavers Court, Halstead, to hot food take-away and to install extractor fans to the shop, which was Pilgrims Natural Wholefoods until it closed in November 2011.
More recently, the shop has been used by a local artist to display her artwork but it is currently empty.
It is expected that the new fish and chip shop would employ four part time and four full time staff and it would open seven days a week.
Mr Garcia-Mayol will only accept the shop for lease from the East of England Co-operative Society if planning permission is approved, according to Robert Pomery of Pomery Planning Consultants.
