Developers are expected to press ahead with controversial plans for 300 homes after passing the first hurdle.

Gladman Developments Ltd, acting on behalf of trustees who own land south of Oak Road in Halstead, applied for a screening opinion in June.

This was to decide if they needed in-depth reports on the development’s environmental impact when they apply for planning permission.

Braintree Council has confirmed these will not be needed, but in an unusual step, has asked the trustees to consider the amount of public objection to the housing plans.
