With the return of the much-loved Great British Bake Off to BBC One scores of readers submitted the cakes they considered their most Bake Off-worthy.

Presenters Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood should not rest on their laurels, we were inundated with cakes covered in glitter, rainbow colours and edible flowers.

Fish, cars, shoes and even Russian dolls were all created out of cake, along with the various minions in tribute to the Despicable Me movies.

Wacky creations included a koala bear, a boxing match, a Christmas tree and a pirate ship.

Halstead Gazette readers could easily compete with last year’s Bake Off winner Frances Quinn and her three tier wedding cake, complete with edible confetti.

See this week's Halstead Gazette for a page of reader's super sponges and classic cakes.
