Urgent repair works on a village bridge have been scrapped despite fears that it could collapse.

Essex Highways had previously suggested closing Church Hill, in Earls Colne, for four months from this month to replace the existing Sesame Bridge.

It had been decided that a temporary 100-metre carriageway will be installed in the hope of reducing traffic disruption.
