Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Officers were called to Cowdray Avenue, at the junction with North Station Road, in Colchester, at about 1.30am this morning following reports that a pedestrian had been in collision with a Nissan Terrano, whilst he was crossing the road on the roundabout.

The pedestrian, a 29 year old man from Worcester, was taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridgeshire where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The driver, a 52 year old man from the Colchester area was not injured.

The road was closed until 4.20am whilst investigations were carried out and the scene was cleared.
