A mum is warning fellow parents that new council policies mean they might not be able to afford to get their children to school in September.

Essex County Council (ECC) announced in May that it would no longer fund school transport for children aged 16 and over.

Linda Ramzan, 46, of Little Yeldham, whose son Toby, 16, is autisitc, said the changes could hit disabled children particularly hard because they may not be able to use public transport.

She said: “The council used to send out a letter to tell parents about post 16 transport, but they’re not sending those out anymore.

“How many parents are going to assume that the bus will turn up as normal in September?”
