Get ready to celebrate summer with an afternoon of free activities.

The afternoon, which will run from 2pm until 6pm on Saturday in Halstead Public Gardens, will include fete-style games and stalls, live music and competitions, all provided for free by St Andrew’s Church.

Organiser Sue Paisley said, “As a church we want to give something back to the town. When children arrive in the park they will be given tickets that give them access to all the games and activities for free. Adults are free to enjoy the live music and competitions taking place.

“We are called to get out of the confines of our church building and meet people in their ‘normal’ surroundings. Facilitating that through a celebration of summer in the park seems to us to be a great way of welcoming people. It’s going to be a great day.”

Live music on the day includes singing from Halstead-based Exaltation! Gospel Choir, a contemporary worship band who normally leads the monthly Ignite services at St Andrew’s, and some solos from guitarist and singer, James Abbott. There will also be African drum workshops for the children.

Competitions include fancy dress for children and for knobbly knees for men. Everyone is encouraged to bring along picnics to enjoy the afternoon in the park.

No pre-booking is required – just join in.
