The opening of a new convenience store in Halstead has attracted criticism from residents.
Last week, a Premier store opened in the shop which had previously been occupied by Heard Electrics.
This follows news that the Blockbuster store which closed late last year is to be turned into a Costcutter's.
Mandy Smith, 44, of King's Road, who is in the TA, said: "Convenience stores, charity shops and takeaways - it this really going to put Halstead on the map?"
Stacey Pretty, 24, of Whitehorse Avenue, a full time mum, said: "Halstead needs something more like Asda or Aldi's not more convenience stores. A Costcutter and a Premier really aren't needed."
Passenger assistant Jenny Coleman, 51, of Saxon Close, added: "So with that and Costcutters opening at top of town we definitely don't need another food shop at the Woodman pub."
