Pedal power saw more than £2,700 raised for charity.

Les Littler, 80, of Chipping Hill, and Lobb’s Cycles, Halstead, organised an 80 mile sponsored cycle to raise money for Essex Dementia Care, which helped Mr Littler and his wife, Madge, when she was diagnosed with dementia.

Mr Littler, who ran 60 marathons before turning to cycling, said he was really pleased by the support shown at the cycle event which took place from Coda Systems, Oak Road, Little Maplestead on June 15.

He added: “We were only expecting 40 people to turn up but about 70 took part.

“Unfortunately I fell off my bike a couple of weeks before and broke my wrist so I couldn’t take part, but I cheered everyone on and handed out water with Chris and Steve from Lobb’s Cycles.

“They did a fantastic job organising everything.”
