A memorial service took place to honour of 24 men killed in a bomb explosion on Ridgewell Airfield.
On June 23, 1943, eleven bombs being loaded onto the bomber B17 Caroline blew up.
Stambourne resident Alan Steele, who is membership secretary of 381st Bomb Group and 90
Squadron RAF Memorial Museum Ridgewell, said: “The men died far from home serving the cause of freedom.”
The memorial took place on Sunday.
