Village shopkeepers fear for the future of their business if councillors give the green light to a nearby housing development.

Dad-of-two Richard Jones, who has ran the Colne Engaine Village Shop for more than seven years with his wife Wendy, is concerned that business will suffer if plans to build eight houses and garages at a redundant builder’s yard in Church Street, Colne Engaine, are given the go-ahead.

The 41-year-old claims that the development is not allowing for enough car parking at only one car park space and garage per house and is concerned that parked cars will overspill into the already over-crowded village roads.

He said that the store, which relies on people stopping as they pass through the village, will have less customers if nearby residents clog up the street.
