Objections have been lodged against plans to turn a “very popular” pub into flats and a convenience store

Concerns have been raised for the future of The Woodman Inn, based in Colchester Road, Halstead, after plans were submitted to create an extension, install a cash point and satelitte dish, as well as converting the first floor living accommodation into two flats with a side extension to create a new access point, and also for the installationof refrigeration equipment in the yard.

Asda has confirmed that it is still keen to open a store in Halstead and there are rumours circulating in the town that a branch of the Co-opertive group may also be interested in the 1930s building.

However, pub employees do not want to see their premises closed and converted.
