Two people have been rescued from a lift by working fire crews while Fire Brigade Union members strike for 24 hours. 

Four other incidents were dealt with across Essex in the seventh hour of the firefighters' strike over pensions. 

One fire crew was called to the lift in Chapel Hill, Halstead at 3pm today and the pair was released by 3.24pm. 

Elsewhere in the region, working firefighters tackled a bonfire burning out of control in a garden centre in Basildon, a rubbish fire in Fern Hill Lane Caravan Site in Harlow and a vehicle fire in Burnham.

Southend crews also attended a false alarm.

This brings the total number of incidents to ten since strike action began at 9am.
