Changes to the Dangerous Dog Act that were announced on Friday mean that a dog owner could face prosecution if their animal attacks someone in their home or private property, unless the victim was a trespasser.

Steve McKenna, who has been a postie for 11 years, was bitten by a German shepherd dog in 2011 whilst he was doing his rounds.

Although he supports the new laws, he believes they should have gone further.

“We have a right as postmen to enter someone’s property to deliver their mail and we should have a right to deliver that mail safely."
