A 64-year-old man has raised more than £3,500 for charity after running the London Marathon.

Mely Marquez, of Rayner Way, was running for Children with Cancer and Alzheimers UK and believes his actual total might be closer to £3,700 once he has collected in all the sponsorship money.

Mr Marquez, who owns his own garage Marquez Motors, said, “Cancer is bad enough when you are older, but it must be terrible when you are only six or seven.

“I watched my son running the marathon a couple of years ago and felt inspired to give it a go.

“It’s much harder than it looks!

“I ran it last year and felt so good that I decided to keep doing them.

“I was really impressed to raise this much money and I am definitely planning on running it again.

“I would happily run a marathon every day if it meant I could raise £3,500 every day for charity.

“The day of the marathon was brilliant; the crowd was so supportive and there is a lovely atmosphere.”
