A football team are hoping to win a competition to play at Anfield as a surprise for their manager, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

SC Crittall FC, who play in Clockhouse Way, Braintree, have reached the final four of a nationwide competition searching for inspirational amateur clubs.

The team needs as many Facebook likes as possible for the competition, run by Barclays, to win the chance to play at the home of Liverpool FC next month.

The players decided to enter the competition due to their dedicated manager Andy Livermore, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in January.

Andy, 55, has been involved with the club for more than 40 years and has been team manager for 28 years.

After his diagnosis, it was originally feared the team would have to fold, but the players have taken on responsibility for running the club.

Andy’s daughter Jo said: “He has played football since he was a young boy and he has dedicated most of his life to Crittalls FC.

“He treats the boys like his family and has given so many opportunities to so many.”

After recovering from surgery, Andy is now back on the touchline at matches lending his support to the team.

Jo said: “He is supporting the boys in spite of everything and is a true inspiration to all.

“His dedication to, and love for, Crittalls, the boys and football is truly remarkable and we would love to give the team and Andy the chance to go to Anfield.”
