A charity is appealing for contributions for a First World War exhibition being held later this year.

The Halstead branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will be holding the exhibition at its club headquarters in The Causeway from August 1 to 4.

Organisers are appealing for anyone with memorabilia from the period to loan them to the club for the duration of the event.

Club secretary Paul Partridge said: “We have had some books about the First World War donated, along with some photos and medals which we will be getting.

“But we are really looking for anything to do with Halstead from the time - it doesn’t have to be relating to the war, it could be recipes or old tins from the 1914 to 1918 period.

“We would like residents to loan us photos, letters, trench art, books, together with items relating to the way that people lived locally in Halstead and the surrounding area at the time.”

Items can be delivered to the club, at 13 The Causeway, which is open from 12noon seven days a week.

Anyone wanting more information can call Mr Partridge on 07704 357446.

A series of events, including church services, a band performance and a poppy fall display are planned to take place in Halstead in the days leading up to August 4, the day Britain declared war on Germany 100 years earlier.
