A grandmother has praised the quick-thinking actions of a “hero in fluorescent trousers” who came to her aid when her car overturned with her and her three young grandchildren inside.

Eileen Sizer, 63, had just picked up twins Sophie and Megan, 10, from Gosfield Primary School and was taking them and their two-year-old sister Bethany, to visit Braintree when they crashed into a transit van that had spilt its load in The Street, in Gosfield.

Mrs Sizer, of Long Gardens, Twinstead, said: “There was nothing I could do to avoid it and we hit the load which spun us upside down and landed on the roof.

“Sophie was banging on the door and screaming and this man was there and he pulled her out and gave her a great big cuddle.

"He then stood behind me stabilising my head and keeping my neck straight.

“We would really like to meet him to say thank you, he’s our hero angel in florescent trousers.”
