A football club chairman has been left shocked and saddened after “wanton and needless damage” of dressing room facilities.

Braintree Town Football Club chairman Lee Harding believes he has no alternative but to contact police after damage was caused at the Amlin Stadium dressing room immediately after the Skrill Premier Division match at home to Salisbury City on Saturday.

The club has confirmed that the perpetrator, who is known to the club, is not associated with either Braintree Town or Salisbury City football clubs.

After the damage was reported to the Football Association representative at the game, the perpetrator did not apologise, but accepted liability for the damage and offered to pay for the repairs to the facilities in full.

Mr Harding said: "Over the years we have all worked hard to improve our facilities as best we can.

“We will now face a race against time to complete the costly repairs before our game next Tuesday at home to Macclesfield.

“Personally, I'm shocked by it - this is a very sad day for the game!"
