A campaign group has presented its vision for a community-focused park in Halstead town centre.
The Halstead 21st Century group wants to stop development of green space east of the High Street.
Representatives of the group presented documents outlining their ambitions to preserve the land to Braintree Council last Friday.
Both sites have been earmarked for development in the council’s Local Development Framework (LDF) plan.
The land east of the High Street had been set to become a supermarket until Tesco withdrew from the project last year.
But the 21st Century group wants the area to be preserved to feature a community orchard, allotments, a Victorian garden, visitor centre and heritage trail.
