Residents have a few weeks left to give their views on plans to cut the number of district councillors serving the Halstead area.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has recommended the size of Braintree Council is reduced from 60 to 49.

The changes, proposed by council leaders to cut costs, would see 13 councillors representing the Halstead area, rather than the current 16 members.

LGBCE chairman Max Caller said: “We are keen to hear local views about our boundary proposals before we finalise them in July.

“We want to make sure ward boundaries in Braintree and across the wider district reflect the identities and interests of local communities as well as delivering electoral fairness for voters.”

The consultation closes on April 14.
