A councillor has welcomed action to finally tackle flooding in a village.

Frustrated residents of Greenstead Green had claimed their garages, sheds and gardens were left under several inches of water whenever heavy rain hits, with homes in Crocklands and Burton’s Green Road badly affected when rain streams downhill along Church Road.

District councillor John O’Reilly-Cicconi (Con, Gosfield and Greenstead Green) had taken up the issue with the highways team at County Hall and work was finally carried out at the start of the month after what he claimed had been a decade of waiting.

An Essex Highways spokesman said: “The gullies and drainage system were cleared and it was discovered that the issue at this location requires further investigation and repair.

“An engineer will be visiting the site again to assess the situation and programme repairs which will be scheduled to take place as priorities allow.”
