A convoy of Second World War vehicles weaved through the streets as villagers continued fundraising efforts for a new memorial.
The Colne Engaine War Memorial Project is hoping to raise £25,000 in time for November’s remembrance services.
The project, which was granted planning permission earlier this month, is being organised to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
Last Saturday, the group arranged for a convoy of four vehicles, supplied by Earls Colne Airfield, to drive to the village’s recreation ground.
The day was planned to drum up publicity for a fundraising Great Escape, which will take place on April 26 as two teams from the project will take place in a ‘jail break’ exercise, leaving from Chelmsford Prison.
One team, dressed in First World War uniforms, will aim to reach several cemeteries in northern France, while the other, dressed in Second World War clothing, will use a 1940s Morris truck to encourage people to make donations at pubs across Essex.
