Stargazers normally have to travel to the Arctic Circle to get a view of the Northern Lights, but Essex residents got a sight of the phenomenon from their own homes last night.

The spectacular view, caused by electronically charged sun particles entering the Earth's atmosphere, lit up the night sky.

Felsted resident Wendy Clark was among the photographers to capture stunning pictures of the phenomenon, known as Aurora Borealis.
