Public consultation open on proposals to cut size of Braintree District Council

Halstead Gazette: Public consultation open on proposals to cut number of councillors Public consultation open on proposals to cut number of councillors

Residents are being reminded to give their views on proposals to cut the number of councillors in Braintree district.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has recommended that the number of district councillors is reduced from 60 to 49.

The changes will see ward boundaries redrawn throughout the district.

LGBCE chairman Max Caller said: “We are keen to hear what local people think of the recommendations and to tell us if they agree with the proposals.

“If you don’t agree with the boundaries we have drawn, we would like to hear your alternatives.

“We will consider all the submissions we receive whoever they are from and whether your evidence applies to the whole of Braintree or just a part of the district.”

Visit consultation.lgbce.org.uk to view the proposals.

The consultation closes on April 14.

Let me think - would people like to have fewer politicians? It's such a hard question....
