Halstead could be in danger of becoming a “concrete jungle like Harlow”, according to the town’s chamber of trade chairman.
The claim from Anne-Maree Robertson comes as concerns mount over plans for housing on town centre green spaces.
Land east of Halstead High Street has been remarketed, while, under Braintree Council’s Local Development Framework, recreational land at the back of the former Halstead Senior Citizens’ Centre could also give way to new homes.
