A badger was illegally snared and then dumped on the road to look like the victim of a road accident, a protection group believe.
The North East Essex Badger Group (NEEBG) discovered a male badger on the A131 near Bulmer Tye last Friday morning.
But on closer examination the group found wounds which suggested the animal had been snared.
NEEBG have reported the incident to Essex Police.
