Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are continuing to investigate an attempted murder.

Police and ambulance crews were called to an incident at Park Street, Westcliff, at around 9.30am yesterday where a 26-year-old woman received serious stab injuries. She was taken by ambulance to a London Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Following police enquiries a 42-year-old man was located by police officers in a black Land Rover Discovery on the Eastern Esplanade junction with Plas Newydd shortly after 10.30am.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he was treated at the scene for knife wounds by ambulance crews, which are believed to be self-inflicted.  He has also been taken to a London Hospital and is in a critical condition.

Police are continuing their investigations at both locations but are satisfied that they are not seeking any further suspects in connection with this incident.

Detectives are seeking any witnesses who may have observed any part of the incidents.

They want to talk to anyone who remembers seeing the black old-style Land Rover at any time between 9am and 10.30am this morning.  Any witnesses are asked to contact detectives at the Brentwood Major Investigation team on 101.
