More than 75 homes could be built on woodland previously eyed by Tesco.
The supermarket giant had looked set to build on the 4.4 acre site, known as land east of Halstead High Street, but its plans for a new 2,825m2 store were rejected by Braintree Council in January last year.
The consortium of six landowners who own the site, including Braintree Council, appointed Savills to remarket it in October and a buyer could now selected as soon as April.
Savills admitted it expected interest from housing developers.
Justin Bates, of the agent’s development team, said: “We have been instructed by a consortium of landowners including Braintree Council to market the site, which we anticipate will generate interest from residential developers."
According to a local surveyor, the site would likely house about 75 or 80 homes.
