Campaigners have called on the Government to cut the number of night flights at Stansted Airport.

The Essex base is currently allowed to handle 12,000 flights per year between the hours of 11.30pm and 6am.

Flight arrivals into Stansted often pass over Braintree district at a height lower than 6,000 feet.

Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) has voiced its concerns in response to a Department for Transport (DfT) consultation on night flight limits for the next three years, starting in October.

But Stansted Airport head of public affairs Chris Wiggan said: “As the UK economy improves and passenger and freight movements continue to grow, it is vital the Government retains our full night flight quota limit."
