Embracing modern technology could be the key to reviving retail trade in Halstead, according to a town centre business leader.

The Visit Halstead website, funded by grant money from the Portas Pilot scheme, has experienced early success since its launch in late November.

The website’s features include a directory of town centre retailers, including contact details and the latest special offers.

Halstead Town Team chairman Richard Cook said: “There has been lots of work getting business and people knowing about the website.

“We are trying to encourage the technological side of things - the big thing is that it is really simple for businesses, organisations and traders to use the site themselves and put their information, offers and functions in.

“Anybody can get onto it.”

Halstead Town Team is holding an open forum meeting on tonight to discuss the new website and other town centre initiatives.

All businesses, organisations and residents are welcome to attend the meeting, which takes place at 7.30pm at Queens Hall, on Chipping Hill.
